HNLC gives training in Chittagong Hill tracts: Police

Shillong, July 14: The interrogation of the recently arrested members of HNLC has revealed that there is a training camp of the group in Bangladesh’s Chittagong Hills Tracts.

The BSF and its counterpart BGB have been denying the existence of any camps of the militant groups in Bangladesh.

Ri Bhoi SP Jagpal Singh Dhanoa said five persons who were arrested recently were trained in Bangladesh by the HNLC after they reached there last year.

Recently, in a statement , the SP said that during the course of investigation of Umiam P.S case No. 46(06)2024 U/s  120B/506/384/511 IPC R/W Sec 10/13/17/18 UA(P) Act, four accused persons were arrested namely Cyfrank Paul Pariat, Kitbok Mujai, Barnabas Lyngdoh and Wanpynshngai Dympep. During interrogation of the accused Cyfrank Paul Pariat, he revealed that he had undergone training in Bangladesh with  Kynsaijun Thabah @ Kynsai (32), son of Swit Jana, a resident of Umlyngka,Kynton Block-II, East Khasi Hills District for a period of one month in July 2023 till mid August 2023 after which they returned to their respective homes.

On July 5, Kynsaijun Thabah was arrested and during his examination he confessed to being a member of the banned HNLC and that he had undergone training during the period together with Cyfrank Pariat. Further he revealed the name of one co-accused  Sanbor Rapsang who had helped to arrange the logistics for his movement to Bangladesh last year from Dawki. On July 11, Sanbor Rapsang (38) from Mawlai Umjajiew was arrested in connection with the case.

According to the police, Barnabas Lyngdoh and Sanbor Rapsang are also members of HNYF.
