Shillong, Aug 24: Neither the state government nor the Durand Cup Organising Committee, ticketing agency, event management group or consultants came clear on Saturday regarding the chaos created during the sale of ticket for Durand Cup semifinal match between North East United FC and Shillong Lajong FC scheduled for Monday.
The counter at Golf Links, Polo was closed down at 2.30 pm due to commotion which led to organisers arranging the sale of tickets at State Central Library premises.
People gathered in large numbers for tickets at State Central Library premises with the police and the magistrates deputed to ensure law and order.
As similar situation was witnessed elsewhere in the city, the concerned authorities chose to be silent.
There was no clarity on the capacity of the stadium, and how many tickets were sold amid allegations that tickets were sought by ‘high level’ people in the government.
There were also reports that John Abraham, the owner of North East United FC wil attend with 6000 supporters for which tickets were already arranged.
There was also disruption to the sale of online tickets after 8 pm on Saturday.
Fake ticketsĀ
A functionary of the event management group said after it was detected that people were trying to print fake tickets in the past , the organisers decided to introduce hologram in tickets for the semifinal match on Monday.
However, the functionary did not give any reply when asked why the hologram was not introduced for tickets from the beginning of the Durand Cup matches.
