Shillong, Sep 10: The government wanted   the chief secretary to convene a meeting with the Harijan Panchayat Committee (HPC) to discuss the relocation of the families.

The HPC had asked the government for extension of time to reply to the blueprint for relocation of 342 families from Them Iew Mawlong.

Earlier, the goverment had given 15 days’ time to the HPC to convey its final decision.

Dhar said the HPC wanted more time as they have some more points to discuss with their higher authorities.

“Therefore, the government has decided to grant extension of time for the last time. The chief secretary will call a meeting in the last week of September and he will submit a report to the government for its final decision,” he said.

“We don’t see it as a tactic to delay the matter but as a government we want to come to a good conclusion”, he added.

According to Dhar, there will be no more talks after the meeting to finalise the pending issue.
