Shillong, July 20: Rajesh Chhetri and Amar Gatraj started distributing meals among the poor in the city during the lockdown last year. This has now become a weekly affair.
Rama’s Foundation, a non-governmental organisation started by Chhetri and Gatraj, feeds over 700 people every Sunday at Paltan Bazar. The duo say the initiative was for a few days “but then we felt, why stop it?”

“We are small-time traders and it is not an easy task to feed so many people every week. But we want to do it because we feel good about it. Some Good Samaritans also extend help. We are trying to help the poor in whatever way we can,” said Gatraj, adding that they follow all healthcare protocols during distribution of food.
