Traffic safety concerns over painting of roads in city

Shillong, March 6: The Opposition on Thursday expressed concern over distraction due to painting of roads with different colours in the city.
During the Question Hour, Brightstarwell Marbaniang (VPP-Mawlai) wanted to know whether the painting on the road in and around the main secretariat road is as per Indian Road Congress codes and standards.
In reply, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Urban Affairs Sniawbhalang Dhar said that the interventions are as per the geometric design standards for urban road and streets.
Raising a supplementary question, Opposition Leader Mukul Sangma pointed out about the distraction that may cause due to the painting of roads.
In reply, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said the initiative was according to the provisions of the union ministry of housing and urban affairs .
He said the government is taking initiatives to decongest the city and the plan is to make 30 per cent area non-motorable so that the pedestrians can walk.
