Shillong, April 14: The VPP has sought a probe into the alleged anomalies in conducting JHADC polls on February 21
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary DP Wahlang and Commissioner & Secretary, District Council Affairs Cyril Diengdoh, the VPP general secretary and Shillong MP Ricky AJ Syngkon said there should be an independent and time-bound inquiry into the failure of the state government and the district administration in ensuring a free and fair conduct of the election to the JHADC.
According to the VPP leader, the government should initiate probe into the entire sequence of events leading up to and during the polling on February 21 in Wapung Skur A and B, Bataw A and B and other incidents in other polling stations as to why no steps were taken to provide adequate security to ensure conduct of free and fair elections in the two Jaintia Hills districts.
The goverment carried out bypolls in the four polling booths on February 22.
The VPP leader reminded that before the elections, the party had cautioned the authorities on sensitive polling stations which required action.
The party wanted the goverment to take action against those responsible for security lapses and failure to act despite prior intimation and warnings.
There is a need to ensure that future elections are conducted in a free, fair, and secure environment for all citizens and parties alike”, Syngkon added.
