Govt to uplift city roads, identify waterlogging

Shillong April 14: The state government will  sanction fund for resurfacing city roads besides addressing waterlogging in several parts.
Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar told reporters on Monday that the PWD submitted a detailed project report (DPR) after the government decided to cancel the construction of a smart road under the smart city project in Lachaumiere (in picture).
According to Dhar, the road project was not feasible to implement due to various reasons.
“We have decided to stop that and we came with a fresh proposal from PWD road. We are yet to sanction fund for resurfacing the roads but by ths year, we will get good roads,” Dhar said.
The deputy chief minister said the PWD is also identifying all waterlogging areas in the city.
Other smart city projects
 Dhar said there is good progress in the implementation of various smart city projects.
He said, “We are reviewing from time to time. All projects are progressing well.”
The deputy chief minister said 98 percent of the construction work for Polo shopping mall has been completed and the construction work of parking lots is also progressing.
“Hopefully if not by 2025 but by mid 2026 it should be completed. We are also waiting for the next phase of 2.0 smart city projects,”he said.
