Shillong, April 28: Police on Monday arrested the president of the North Eastern Hill University Students’ Union (NEHUSU) Sandy Sohtun for assaulting assistant professor of the university’s Hindi department Alok Singh, on April 24.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said police took the accused into custody after a complaint by the professor.
As five more were involved in the assault incident , the SP said all those involved wil be arrested.
The local court has forwarded Sohtun to judicial custody for seven days.
Besides condemnation from the state, the post graduate students union, Gauhati University and.Assam University Students’ Union had also sought action.
Sohtun has been forwarded to 7 days judicial custody after he was arrested on Monday in connection with the recent assault of an assistant professor of the university’s Hindi department.
