GHADC candidate selection based on winnability factor : Marcuise

Shillong, June2: National Peoples’ Party (NPP) working president and cabinet minister Marcuise N Marak has said selection of candidates for the  elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) will be based on ‘winnability factor’.

Marak told reporters on Monday  that the party is gearing up its preparation for the GHADC polls.

“Some of our candidates are already in the field now,” he said.

Om the recent joining of two former legislators along with their supporters in East Garo Hills, Marak said, “That is the testimony of how we are starting now.”

He said the party is looking for new candidates.

“However, we will decide party tickets based on winnability factor,” Marak added.

Cenotaph  construction

Construction of the Cenotaph in Tura will start very soon after the detailed project report (DPR) is approved by government, cabinet minister and chairman of the committee on preservation of Garo culture and heritage Marcuise N Marak informed on Monday.

Speaking to media persons, Marak said the second round of meeting of the committee was held recently wherein a local architect from Tura was entrusted to prepare DPR for the Cenotaph.

“The architect submitted the DPR yesterday and I have submitted the same to the chief minister this morning. Once the DPR is sanctioned, we will sit for a third round of meeting and we hopeful that the work will start very soon,” he said.

The minister said earlier Rs 2 crore was sanctioned for the cenotaph but now it has come down to almost Rs 1 crore.
