Activist alleges nepotism by Mendipathar MLA

Shillong,June 28: Social Activist and Advisor to Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organizations (CoMSO) Cherian Momin has criticised Mendipathar MLA Marthon J Sangma for absorption of teachers under the government sanctioned posts for People’s College institutions.

Momin pointed out that the MLA’s recent statement on the matter was an attempt to deflect scrutiny, distort factual records, and intimidate civic voices raising public-interest concerns.

He stressed that the representations submitted to the Chief Minister were based on verifiable documents, official notifications, service records, and established government procedures.

The issue is regarding the absorption of teaching staff at Mendipathar College,.

Momin has claimed there were significant procedural violations as Dingri D. Shira, daughter of the sitting MLA, was absorbed despite not meeting the eligibility criteria.

Moreover, the list bearing her name was unsigned, rendering the process procedurally flawed and legally questionable.

Momin pointed out the exclusion of Subroto G. Marak, a Garo lecturer with an impeccable service record, who was deemed ineligible due to leave taken during the election period.

According to Momin,  Marak availed a recognized leave category granted with prior approval and does not equate to resignation.

Momin expressed concern over the appointment of the MLA’s son as a Member of the District Selection Committee (DSC), North Garo Hills, which he believes raises serious questions about conflict of interest and casts a shadow over the credibility of the entire recruitment process.

He wanted  the MLA to support an independent, and transparent inquiry into both the teacher absorption process and the DSC appointment. “If there is nothing to conceal, then an open investigation should be welcomed”, he added
