Shillong, July 24: Police on Thursday arrested a suspect involved in the abduction of a missing minor girl from Kharkutta, North Garo Hills.
The suspect identified as Sonjith Arengh has been tracked down and apprehended by the North Garo Hills police team from Adokgre PS with the help of people from Mittegittim.
He was planning to flee from the state.
The accused was temporarily taking shelter in Mitegittim village.
Apart from the interrogation of the suspect the teams of NGH police, Kharkutta PS, along with K9 Unit from CID Shillong have been deployed to find out the missing girl.
Drones, Search and Rescue Team (SRT), and villagers are continuing extensive search for the child.
Criminal background of the accused
He is an accused in a 2017 POCSO case registered at Kharkutta PS. He was out on bail and was undergoing trial at the district court for the offence.
However, in 2025, he committed one more POCSO offence and absconded. In this case, the investigation was completed, and the absconder’s chargesheet was filed against him in the court.
