Shillong,July 25: Traditional heads of Sohra on Friday released guidelines to ensure decorum in tourist places.

In response to recent findings of large-scale littering and open dumping of waste by numerous picnic parties-both from within and outside the state-along the Mawkdok-Sohra Road and other parts locations which falls under the jurisdiction of Ka Hima Sohra, the natural beauty and environment are under threat. Ka Hima Sohra takes this issue seriously and is implementing the following measures:
1.Picnicking & open cooking ban
Picnicking, open cooking, and outdoor dining are strictly prohibited anywhere along the Mawkdok-Sohra Road. The same is not allowed in other sites and location beyond the Mawkdok-Sohra road without the permission of the local Dorbar Shnong. Parking of vehicles with public consumption of food or alcohol is also banned in this area.
2. Mandatory waste bags
All vehicles entering Sohra-whether local or from outside the state-must carry their own waste bag. Disposal of waste on open grounds or roadsides is strictly forbidden.
3. Camping restrictions
Night camping is only allowed at designated camping sites. Unauthorised camping outside these areas is strictly prohibited unless managed by professional groups or societies.
4. Mandatory local guides for trekking
Trekking within the areas under Ka Hima Sohra’s jurisdiction now requires hiring a local guide. This applies to all sections of trekking routes.
5. Media & influencers regulation
Vloggers, social-media influencers, media channels, or Individuals cannot promote, publish, or reveal any new or undisclosed spots within Ka Hima Sohra’s jurisdiction without prior approval from the Tourism Committee of Ka Hima Sohra.
These measures are being enforced toprotect both the local economy and our region’s unique selling point-its natural environment to ensure the sustainable growth of tourism in the region.
