City school celebrates environment with Mission LiFE

Shillong, Aug 19: Catch them young to make the world a better place. This was what the city’s green crusaders aimed to do through the Centre’s Mission LiFE programme on Monday.

Project Clean Surrounding, a city-based NGO, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change, organised a programme under the Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) initiative at Eriben Presbyterian Secondary School on August 18.

Dr V. Saio, Scientist at the MoEFCC Regional Office in Lumbatngen, presented the main concept of Mission LiFE.

Students were made aware of the environmental issues, such as climate change, resource depletion and pollution. They were also encouraged to take a pledge to keep their surroundings clean. The objective of the mission is to foster a sense of personal responsibility for environmental conservation.

Project Clean Surrounding has been organising several green drives as part of the Mission LiFE initiative.

LiFE was introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi — at COP26 in Glasgow on November 1, 2021—as a mass movement for “mindful and deliberate utilisation, instead of mindless and destructive consumption” to protect and preserve the environment.
