Shillong, Oct 8: Police have intensified drive against rash and negligent driving.
The move is after many accidents were reported in Ri Bhoi district
A statement by the Ri Bhoi police said that law enforcement operation was conducted from 7 pm on October 7 till early morning on Wednesday.
2500 vehicles were checked and fine of around Rs 8 lakh was collected from around 200 vehicles for various violations like not wearing helmet/seat belt, expired documents, wrong lane driving, over speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal modifications and others.
“We again urge everyone to follow traffic rules diligently.If you notice any violation, click a picture and send to us on 6909300160 (WhatsApp). Be our eyes and ears and we will be much more effective. Thanks to the good samaritans and friends from media who stood with us during the operation”, the police said.
