Shillong, Oct 29: The AICC has ruled out changing Vincent Pala from the state party president post.
Speaking to reporters after welcoming Zenith Sangma and others to the party on Wednesday, the AICC leader in-charge of Meghalaya, A Chellakumar, has ruled out the possibility of replacing Pala by stating that there is no vacancy for the post.
Answering questions on leadership issue, Chellakumar defended Pala and said, “How can you say that? Because somebody left the Congress party, it doesn’t mean that it is a failure of leadership.”
According to the AICC leader, those who leave the party are often driven by personal interests and that the Congress is not here to “fix a prize for some individuals.”
He expressed concern over the alarming rise in HIV cases in the state, attributing it to the NPP-led government’s alleged nexus with the drug mafia.
Chellakumar said that the number of HIV-affected people in Meghalaya has reached unimaginable proportions, with a significant percentage of the population affected. He attributed this to the government’s failure to take serious steps to control the drug menace.
