Shillong, Oct 30: Mizoram has established a security council headed by the chief minister to deal with drug abuse in the state..
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the silver jubilee celebrations of the Mizo Women’s Federation on Thursday here, Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma said, “We got in touch with the Army, Assam Rifles, Police, Excise and NGOs for the formation of the security committee. This resulted in the recovery of so many drugs. Previously, the departments functioned separately, but the anti-narcotics activities are now coordinated in a manner”, he added.
To a question, he said Meghalaya and other states can emulate the example of Mizoram.
Lalduhoma has remained non-committal in giving suggestions to Meghalaya on the introduction of ILP and the railway in the state.
The chief minister said he can’t talk on behalf of the people in Meghalaya regarding ILP and the railway.
Responding to opposition to the railway in the Khasi Hills, he said the influx could be the reason and added that it is quite reasonable also.
He, however, said the introduction of is railway is helping Mizoram though he can’t talk on behalf of the people of Meghalaya
The chief minister also visited Dawki to explore the possibility of setting up a kabd port in Mizoram, which shares a 318 km border with Bangladesh.
