GSI seeks people’s response after earthquake

Shillong, Jan 5: After the 5.1 magnitude tremor shook the North East, including Shillong,  G.Rongmei, the  Director of Earthquake Geology, Geological Survey of India, North East Region, alerted the people to fill up the response in a digital form.

The 5.1 magnitude earthquake occurred on June 5 at 4:17:40 am. The depth was
50 km with the epicentre in Morigaon, Assam.

“As a nodal agency for macroseismic Investigation, the Geological Survey of India (GSI) needs people’s response to make isoseismal lines for earthquake magnitudes above 5 M. This isoseismal map is essential for future urban planning and disaster mitigation.  In this regard, it is requested to invest your valuable time and fill your responses in the given form”, said Rongmei.
