Shillong, Jan 9: An NGO member was killed after an assault incident in Rajabala on Friday afternoon.
According to the police, on January 9, around 2 pm, an incident was reported from Goalgaon under Rajabala police station, where a member of ACHIK NGO, identified as Dilseng M Sangma, son of Gaban Ch. Marak of Amokgre, Phulbari, West Garo Hills District, was assaulted by unidentified persons. He was rushed to Bhaitbari CHC and referred to Tura Civil Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries on the way.
There are reports that ACHIK members had gone to stone quarry sites in Rajabala, and they were attacked while returning.
“Police teams have already been deployed to trace those involved, and all efforts are being made to identify and apprehend the perpetrators involved in the incident at the earliest”, the SP said.
The district police have urged the people to maintain peace and harmony and not to spread or circulate any unverified or provocative content relating to the incident over social media platforms, etc., as such actions may disturb communal harmony in the district. “In this regard, a peace committee is also being initiated by the district administration.
