Narcotics in oil tanker: 4 held in East Jaintia Hills
Police hint at crime syndicate facilitating inter-state transportation of drugs

Shillong, Jan 30: Police on Friday seized an oil tanker for carrying drugs and arrested four persons in East Jaintia Hills.
In a statement issued here, the East Jaintia Hills SP Vikash Kumar said the Anti-Narcotics Task Force of East Jaintia Hills District Police conducted a coordinated operation at Umkiang police patrol post under the jurisdiction of Lumshnong PS on January 30.
During the operation, the team successfully intercepted the oil tanker (AS 11 DC-1200), arrested 4 persons and recovered 4 soap boxes (45.5 grams- worth around Rs 20 lakh) of heroin and 4 mobile phones from their possession. The drug suppliers are suspected to be part of a larger organised crime syndicate working for interstate transportation of drugs.
The apprehended persons have been identified as Shymal Boro, son of Suren Boro, a resident of Lokhra Chariali Gorchuk, Kamrup district, Matab Uddin, son of Mujamil Ali, a resident of Khelma Pt-VII PS-Katigorah, Silchar, Cachar district of Assam, Ataur Rohman c/o Abdul Gani, a resident of Shiberchak, Karimganj, Assam and Biren Singha, son of Lingthow Singh, a resident of Madhopur, Katlicherra, Hailakandi, Assam.
Police registered a case.
