Shillong, Feb 9: The High Court of Meghalaya has expressed anguish over the state’s failure to deal with the illegal coal mining issue.
A hearing on the dynamite blast in Mynsngat-Thangsko mines was held on Monday.
27 miners died, and nine were injured in the blast.
The East Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police Vikash Kumar and the Deputy Commissioner Manish Kumar were present during the hearing on Monday.
While the DC was appointed fifteen days ago, the SP assumed charge a few months ago.
They were summoned by the court on February 5.
According to those who were present in the court, the division bench comprising Justices W Diengdoh and HS Thangkhiew was annoyed over the lack of response by the government in taking action against those involved.
The court examined the report submitted by the former Judge BP Katakey on the incident after his visit.
Sources said Katakey wanted proper action by the government following the incident, besides the need to make public the names of the deceased and the injured.
The court sought the response of the government on the report submitted by Katakey.
The government conveyed to the court the decision to order a judicial inquiry.
The order of the court will be uploaded in the evening.
