Shillong, Feb 16: The NPP has released the first list of 24 candidates to contest the GHADC polls, but the party denied ticket to GHADC CEM Albinush Marak.
The announcement of the candidate was made by the spokesperson and cabinet minister Marcuise Marak, on Monday.
“We have denied ticket to the CEM, who also represents Siju constituency… It was with great difficulty we came to this decision because the question of winnability is also there, we are requesting his cooperation with the party’s decision,” he said.
Marak said the party released its first list of 24 candidates for the GHADC elections, selected based on winnability, loyalty, and past political experiences.
The state election committee, led by Prestone Tynsong, approved the list after the regional committee’s recommendations.
“We took a report from different sources… It was very difficult on our part to reject anybody from the list,” Marak said.
There were atleast seven ticket aspirants in some constituencies.
Party national president Conrad K Sangma and senior leaders personally met the candidates, who were seeking tickets, he said.
“We have been meeting them and consulting with them so that we get their support and cooperation in the forthcoming elections.”
In the second phase, the NPP will release the remaining five candidates for Raksamgre, Naguapara , Boldamgre, Silkigre and Rongrikkimgre
