
Shillong, March 13:The pressure groups from Garo Hills wanted the government to amend the rule to make ST certificates mandatory for contesting candidates for GHADC polls by March 20.
The unsigned resolution being circulated on social media said there will not be any protests till March 20, so that the government can frame the rules.
The groups also wanted revocation of curfew, restoration of internet services and the release of arrested protestors.
In a statement, the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Vibhor Aggarwal said that Pantera M. Marak, who was injured during the law & order problem, was admitted to Civil Hospital on March 11 with injury on his right arm & right knee. There were some minor injuries.
Matak was injured after the police fired rubber bullets to disperse the crowd.
“He was immediately attended to by the team of doctors of Civil Hospital, Tura. After keeping him in the ICU for observation, he has been shifted today to the General Surgery Ward. His condition is stable, and the patient is under constant monitoring. We urge the public not to believe or share unverified information, as it can create unnecessary panic and disturb public peace”, the DC said.
Bernard took up ST issue in House
Tura BJP MDC Bernard N Marak said he had brought before the House the need to have ST certificates for the contesting candidates, but this was not supported by the NPP MDCs
“I came up with the proposal to make Schedule Tribe (ST) certificate mandatory in the Autonomous District Council (ADC) election to protect the interest of the Hill Tribals”, Marak said.
