Govt notifies Meghalaya Teachers Training Academy

Shillong, April 2: The state government had come up with Meghalaya Teachers Training Academy.
After holding a review meeting on Thursday, Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui told reporters that the education department has notified the academy and its director and officers will draft an implementation plan.
“Teachers’ training is very important. We have impressed upon them to formulate the plan and decide how to go about it,” Rymbui said.

The minister also reviewed preparations for the Meghalaya Teachers Eligibility Test, advertised by the Directorate of Educational Research and Training.
Rymbui acknowledged complications after a Supreme Court ruling that in-service teachers must also qualify. “We know there will be an issue because a large number of candidates will be there. We discussed the matter and when the exam is conducted, there should be no issues at all,” he said.
Construction of schools
The state government has approved construction of 186 lower primary school buildings and additional classrooms for several higher secondary schools, part of a broader push to strengthen education infrastructure at the start of the new financial year.
Rymbui praised Chief Minister Conrad Sangma for clearing the school projects.
“I am very happy that the Chief Minister has sanctioned about 186 school buildings for lower primary schools and also includes a few higher secondary schools in which additional classrooms are needed,” he said.
The minister said the review covered staffing for newly created subdivisions, including offices for sub-divisional school education officers.
