Police foil attempt to kidnap businessman

Shillong, April 27: Police foiled an attempt to abduct a businessman within 30 minutes of receiving information on April 25.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Superintendent of Police, North Garo Hills Pawar Swapnil said the Bajengdoba Police Station received information around 3 pm that some persons had abducted a businessman in a silver Ertiga vehicle from the Bolsong area.
Police team immediately set up a naka (checkpoint) at Mansinggre.
Around 3.30 pm, the suspected vehicle was intercepted by the police.
“During the checking, the abducted businessman was found inside the vehicle and was rescued without delay,” the SP said
According to preliminary inquiry, the miscreants intercepted the victim along the Bolsong–Agia road, forcibly stopped him, took his cash and snatched his motorcycle key and mobile phone’, the SP said.
Police said the accused persons have been identified and legal proceedings have been initiated.
While questioning, one of the accused claimed association with an NGO identified as the United Garo People’s Forum.
“A case has been registered at Bajengdoba Police Station vide Case No. 03/2026 under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigation is underway,” the statement said.
The North Garo Hills police reiterated that all forms of criminal activities, including offences allegedly committed under the guise of organisations or associations will be dealt with as per law.
