
Shillong, April 29: The administration and the traditional heads of Sohra will meet on Monday to discuss how to deal with the safety of visitors after the body of a 14-year-old tourist was recovered from Wei Sawdong waterfalls, Sohra, on Thursday(April 29).
Palak (14 ) from Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh, slipped and fell when she returned after taking photographs of the waterfall on April 29, an official said.
She was to turn 15 on May 1
Police ruled out any foul play as she was with her uncle, aunt and the cousin.
According to the district administration, the family checked out of a hotel in Sohra on the morning of April 29, and while returning to Shillong, they stopped to explore Wei Sawdong falls.
An official said they did not take the help of the guides and volunteers
ignoring the suggestions after the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi at Wei Sawdong area by his wife Sonam Raghuvanshi and four others.
Earlier, Wei Sawdong was closed for a few years due to a dispute between two localities.
As far as the incident is concerned, information was received from Sordar Laitduh that around 11.30 am on April 29, the girl slipped and was carried away by a strong current. Search & Rescue Team (SRT), Police and Fire Emergency Services were deputed for the rescue operation.
The body was found around 7.30 am on April 30 by the locals, and it was recovered by the Fire & Emergency Service, Sohra, around 10 am
Post mortem was done at Sohra Community Health Centre, and the body was handed over to the relatives.
