MSL 5: A’chik SCO Rongjeng rally from behind to sign off with victory
Shillong, May 7: A’chik SCO Rongjeng ended their campaign in the 5th Meghalaya State League with a rousing 3-2 victory against Balmanduri FC in Group G at Williamnagar on Thursday.
In Group E, Iatyllilang Lumsehkot CSC won 3-0 against Lamyrsiang SCC at Wahiajer. Both teams were already confirmed as third and fourth respectively in the group before today.
Likewise, neither ASCOR nor Balmanduri could progress to the next stage of MSL 5 but both gave it their all on the pitch today.
Balmanduri were looking good for victory in the first half with a brace by Chichang M Momin (27′, 33′) but ASCOR came right back in the second half thanks to captain Sensial Sangma (54′), Klubarth M Sangma (78′) and Keri G Momin (88′).
ASCOR thus ended their part in MSL 5 with third place in Group G – their eight games were neatly divided into four wins and four defeats. Keri has been a sensation with 13 goals in all this season, which is currently the second-highest by any player in the league.
Balmanduri, meanwhile, still have one match to go against group leaders Janepih YSCA in two days’ time.
Tomorrow will witness two more matches, both to kick off at 3pm. In Group E, Lumphyrnai Sohphoh FC will face Shillong Lajong FC at Wahiajer, while Lawbah SC and Mishon SSCC will take each other on in Group F at Mairang. The latter had been originally scheduled for 27 April but had to be postponed.
While Lajong and Lumphyrnai have already confirmed their places in the pre-quarterfinals, the Group F fixture could be consequential, though Lawbah will have to win by a huge margin in order to take second place away from Mishon.
