Bernard cites duplication of project

Shillong, May 17: Duplication of a project was unveiled by the Central Level Monitoring Committee members formed through the Agreed Text for Settlement (ATS).

In a statement issued on Sunday, the BJP MDC Bernard Marak said that while inspecting the projects under the Agreed Text for Settlement (ATS) this week, such as Tribal Research Institute, Upgradation of Arts and Culture and Museum interesting facts developed about the Museum which practically disappeared from the site, over which the upgradation of Arts and Culture Centre, originally proposed in Dakopgre, was shifted to Chidekgre and was constructed over Council Museum by the contractor who was not available during inspectio in a Council owned land in Chidekgre.

The construction is 90% but iit s yet to be handed over neither by Council or by theĀ  contractor. This matter needs to be taken to Court or handed over for Central level investigation, Marak said.

Similarly, the Baljek Airport, the Engineering College in Ampati, 300 bed- Health Complex, are slated to resume in the coming weeks following a period of abandonment. The Centre has approved considerable funds for Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) and the State government to improve health, education, and infrastructure. ATS signatories conducted inspections of ongoing projects in West and South West Garo Hills. Since the 2014 agreement with ANVC and ANVC.B groups, significant projects have been sanctioned. Despite regular monitoring committee meetings every six months, Covid-19 disrupted the process, and meetings resumed only last September. Projects span various sectors, including education, healthcare, and infrastructure development. Visits highlighted both accomplishments and challenges, including abandoned projects and substandard workmanship. Signatories are advocating for additional funding to revive halted projects and probe irregularities. Further monitoring visits are planned to cover the remaining districts, with findings to be submitted to the Home Ministry.
