Five workers of Centre Point assaulted in Laitkynsiew

Shillong, May 28: Five workers of a construction site of the Centrepoint Group in Laitkynsiew village, were assaulted by a group claiming to be from the KSU, on Thursday (May 28)

According to a statement issued by the Centre Point, the injured have been identified as Manish Sharma,Papu Sharma, Raj Kumar Sharma, Mitlis Kumar, and Sorjo Bhumij.

The Centrepoint Group condemned the  incident of ‘trespassing, violence, and assault’

The incident was around 2.45 pm at the upcoming resort project site at Laitkynsiew village .

“A group of around 15 youth claiming to be from  the KSU entered the project site without permission and proceeded to intimidate and physically assault workers present at the location. During the incident, one carpenter Rajkumar Sharma  sustained grievous head injuries and has since been admitted to hospital for medical treatment, said Larsing Sawyan, Managing Director .

The Centre Point group viewed the assault not merely as an attack on a private business establishment, but as a direct attack on the fundamental rights of every bonafide Indian citizen — the right to security, livelihood, dignity, and lawful employment.

“An attack on local business houses which have a proven track record of employment and creating infrastructure in rural areas is an attack on the people of Meghalaya . Such acts can only be orchestrated by enemies of the state, eople and groups who dont want to see Meghalaya develop sustainably” , he said.
