Forms retrieved after BLO found to be operating from Ex- MLA’s residence

Shillong, July 3: The East Khasi Hills  district election officer has asked the Booth Level Officer (BLO) to retrieve the enumeration forms after he was found to be operating from the residence of a former MLA of West Shillong constituency.

“The concerned BLO has been directed to immediately retrieve all the enumeration forms distributed on the 30th June, 2026, 1st July and 2nd July, 2026”, a statement issued by the district election officer said.

The decision was after a meeting was convened  on Special Intensive Revision ( SIR) with representatives of political parties at the office chamber of the District Election Officer, East Khasi Hills District Abhilash Baranwal,on July 3.

“Concerns were raised with regard to some reports, wherein it was alleged that a particular BLO was found distributing enumeration forms from the residence of the former legislator of 18-West Shillong (GEN) Assembly Constituency. The Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong apprised the members present that the incident has been taken note of by the District Election Officer and the concerned Electoral Registration Officers (ERO), and wherein, spot inspection was conducted by the AERO on 2/7/2026 to ascertain facts on the grounds. The concerned BLO has been directed to immediately retrieve all the enumeration forms distributed on the 30th June, 2026, 1st July and 2nd July, 2026. It was also informed that from 3rd July, 2026, the BLO supervisor will personally assist the BLO in distributing the enumeration forms to eligible electors. The AERO of the Assembly Constituency will make a daily visit  and personally monitor the distribution of enumeration form till the completion of the enumeration process”, the statement said.

The district election officer apprised the members present that the total enumeration forms distributed in 15 Assembly constituencies excluding Sohra Sub-division stand at 63731 as on 5 pm of July 2.

It was also informed to  the members present that Booth Level Agents’ (BLAs) forms have been received from two national parties and one state party.

The deputy commissioner reiterated that the primary purpose of the SIR is not to enroll new voters but to enumerate the existing electors as per the electoral roll of 2025 and the legacy roll of 2005, therefore the allegation of enrolment of the new ineligible voters is ill-founded.
