Govt to ensure regular power supply despite rainfall shortage

Shillong, July 3: The state government will not resort to power cuts despite facing shortage of rainfall.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Commissioner & Secretary in charge of Power, Sanjay Goyal, said on Friday that the power supply across the state will remain stable through July and August despite the deficit in hydro generation.  “Of course, the rainfall this year has been less than what was expected, and that has been confirmed by the IMD as well,” Goyal said.

The government will explore more on solar and thermal power.

Regarding thermal power, Goyal said that the government is exploring the possibility.

We have received some expressions of interest from a few players. I would not say that it is a closed chapter yet,” Goyal said, adding that the current thermal needs are being met through outside tie-ups.

“As far as our procurement is concerned, because of the availability of power from NTPC Bongaigaon, we are okay as far as thermal availability is concerned,” he added .
