Missing man's body recovered; three held

Shillong, July 3:  An abandoned coal mine was used to dump a body after murdering an abducted person.

Three persons were arrested in connection with the crime.

In a statement issued on Friday (July 3), Shailendra Bamaniya,  Superintendent of Police, East Jaintia Hills, said on June 15,  a complaint was lodged by the family members of  Kyrshan Lamurong, stating that he had gone missing with his Maruti Suzuki S-Presso vehicle. Based on the complaint, a criminal case was registered at Khliehriat Police Station vide Khliehriat P.S. Case No. 145/2026 under sections 140(1)/142/3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

In the course of investigation, sustained efforts were made involving both technical and human intelligence that led to the identification of the following suspects:

1. Kumar Barman (44 years)

2.  Joysharon Barman (38 years)

Permanent Address: Chirang District, Assam

Present Address: Cement Bazar, Umpleng, Meghalaya

3. Tensing Dkhar alias “Arki” (34 years) Resident of Mulait Sumer, Meghalaya

During interrogation, the accused persons revealed to have abducted the victim, whom they murdered and subsequently disposed of the body in an abandoned coal pit at Rymbai (Dongkon) Village to conceal their crime.

Following leads given by the accused themselves during the interrogation, the police team located the body and retrieved the same with the assistance of the SDRF and SRT from a secluded location.

The District Crime Scene Unit also examined the scene of crime and collected material evidences pertinent to the investigation. Post-mortem examination was conducted on the spot over the body which was thereafter handed over to the family members.

When asked, the SP said the motive appears to be to sell the vehicle for money.
