
Shillong, July 6: The state has apprised the High Court of Meghalaya regarding the stress of NHAI official Anand Singh Chauhan for allegedly taking bribe.
During the hearing on the pending case on road connectivity, NHAI counsel S Sengupta informed that Chauhan was arrested by the CBI on July 1, and that he had earlier been transferred from PIU-Shillong to PIU-Hanuman Ghat.
The division bench of Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice W. Diengdoh gave NHAI seven days to submit a status report in connection with a land acquisition petition.
Following this, the court was informed that the NHAI officer facing contempt proceedings has been taken into custody by the CBI.
The petition was filed by Kynjaimon Amse (deceased) against NHAI & others
NHAI counsel requested one week to file an affidavit updating the court on the matter.
Allowing the plea, the bench directed that the report be filed in the registry ahead of the next hearing and that advance copies be given to all parties.
The court also noted the status of Chauhan, against whom the contempt notice was issued on March 20.
“Whenever he is released, he will appear before the court,” Sengupta said.
The case will be taken up again on July 13.
Official demanded bribe of Rs 12 lakh
The CBI’s Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB), Guwahati had arrested Chauhan for demanding Rs 12 lakh from a contractor.to process an outstanding bill of Rs 13.38 crore.
A complaint in this regard was filed with the Deputy Inspector General of Police, CBI, ACB.
