Lion Deepak Mittal installed as president for Lionistic Year 2026

58th installation ceremony of Board of Directors of Lions Club of Gauhati

Shillong, July 17: The 58th installation ceremony of the Board of Directors of Lions Club of Gauhati for the Lionistic Year 2026–27, titled “YUGARAMBH,” was celebrated with grandeur, emotion and enthusiasm at Hotel Kiranshree Grand, Guwahati.

The newly elected team, led by the president Lion Deepak Mittal, secretary Lion Anil Harlalka and treasurer Lion Vivek Jalan, was ceremoniously installed by Past District Governor Lion Sudhir Choudhary. The unique musical-themed installation captivated the audience and made the evening  memorable. In a symbolic moment marking the transition of leadership, immediate past president Lion Rajesh Hansaria handed over the symbol of authority, “The Gavel,” to the newly installed President, Lion Mittal.

The ceremony was graced by international director (2026–28) Lion Suraj Bagla of Kolkata as the Chief Guest and Induction Officer. Significantly, this was his first programme in India after taking the oath of office at the Lions International Convention in Hong Kong. In He inducted 26 new members into the Lions Club of Gauhati family.

Prior to the commencement of the installation ceremony, Lion Suraj Bagla inaugurated President Lion Deepak Mittal’s dream service project, “BAG OF HOPES.” Under the chairmanship of Lion Manish Khemani, the project aims to distribute 100 bags of dry ration every month to needy families, with a target of 1,100 bags during the Lionistic Year and a total project outlay of Rs 11 lakh. The kits will help in making 35000+ cooked meals during the year.

Appreciating the initiative, Lion Bagla emphasised that Lions are known by their service, and beginning any celebration with an act of service makes the occasion even more meaningful.

District Governor Lion Manoj Bhajanka, First Lady Lion Preety Bhajanka and First Vice District Governor Lion Rajesh Agarwala also graced the occasion and shared inspiring thoughts on Lionism, the District’s future plans and the noble vision behind the “Bag of Hopes” initiative.

The evening was conducted by the Masters of Ceremony, Lion Ravi Agarwal and Kirti Agarwal, who kept the audience engaged throughout the programme.

During the ceremony, Lion Suraj Bagla presented international president’s appreciation certificates to Lions Ravi Agarwal, Surendra Jain and Ranjit Malu. International President’s Pins were also presented to Lions Deepak Mittal, Pawan Hawelia, Amit Agarwal, Manish Khemani, Sanjay Agarwal and Dilip Saraf in recognition of their dedication and contribution to Lionism.

The ceremony witnessed the presence of over 350 Lions, Galaxy of Past District Governors, Cabinet Members, club leaders, distinguished guests and family members of the new president. The event was widely hailed as one of the finest and most memorable Installation ceremonies in the history of Lions Club of Gauhati—a perfect blend of leadership, fellowship and service from the heart.
