Shillong, July 28: As many as 2,166 electors in Meghalaya did not take part in enumeration process under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), 2026,
Sources said that the refusal is due to various factors. Some are border residents, while others refuse enumeration due to superstitions.
There are others who refused to be photographed.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday (July 28), Chief Electoral Officer Dr BDR Tiwari said that those who fail to submit forms before the deadline will not feature in the Draft Electoral Roll to be published on August 5.
July 29 is the deadline for distribution and digitisation.
Tiwari said all booth level officers have been instructed to cover remaining households immediately.
According to verification data released on July 28, 1,49,656 electors, or 6.37% of the state’s 23,49,645 voters, have been marked under Absent, Shifted, Death, Duplicate (ASSD) categories.
This includes 74,851 deaths, 37,914 shifted, 28,826 absent, 5,899 duplicate entries, and 2,166 refusals.
In addition, 2,24,435 electors, or 9.55% of the electorate, fall under ‘No Mapping’ categories and require further verification.
“Electors who have not yet submitted their duly filled forms are urged to do so immediately by handing them to their BLO or through self-enumeration on the ECINET App or Portal,” the CEO said.
Tiwari clarified that all ASSD and refusal cases will be processed strictly under the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, after due verification and after giving opportunity to the concerned electors or their family members.
With SIR entering its final phase, the CEO appealed to all remaining electors to participate to ensure a clean, accurate and inclusive Electoral Roll.
