Shillong, Aug 6: The New Shillong Township Development Agency (NSTDA) has sought clarification from. the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on a religious temple being constructed within its Mawdiangdiang campus on government land.
The agency under the Urban Affairs department wrote to DIG, CBI, ACB Shillong on August 4 seeking clarification.
Director Urban Affairs-cum-NSTDA Member Secretary P K Boro said in the letter that the agency received inputs from KSU Shillong Mihngi Circle and the Director of Land Records and Survey about the alleged construction.
Boro said that the land was leased to the CBI in November 2018 for an office-cum-residential complex. As per Clause 10 of the lease, “the lessee shall not construct any structure, or alter any structure erected on the said land without prior permission of the Agency.”
He said the letter was issued for the CBI’s information and necessary action.
The KSU Shillong Mihngi Circle asked the state government examine the 2018 lease agreement between NSTDA and the CBI and demolish the alleged temple at the Mawdiangdiang campus if it is found to be in violation.
The union’s demand comes after the New Shillong Township Development Agency wrote to the DIG & Head of Branch, CBI Shillong seeking clarification over reports of a religious structure being built inside the CBI office premises on government Revenue Land.
KSU said it received a reply from the Urban Affairs Department on August 6 following its complaint on the matter.
Pointing to clause 10 of the lease signed on 14th November 2018, the Union said no construction or alteration is allowed without prior NSTDA approval.
