
Shillong, Aug 22: The protesting Assam-Meghalaya taxi bodies have dispersed from Jorabat and Umiam respectively following the ministerial level meeting held in Guwahati.
According to Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner, they have dispersed for the day.
An official source said Assam cabinet minister Atul Bora had also met the taxi associations on the blockade site after the high-level meeting
“Although there is no official statement from them, it appears they won’t be gathering tomorrow”, the official added.
Regarding the fuel supply from Assam, the official said it is yet to be resumed but added that once confirmation of blockade suspension comes, that will also be done.
When contacted on phone, Rabin Datta,
President, Greater Guwahati Tourist Taxi Association, said that another round of talks with Assam government will be held on Sunday following which a formal announcement will be made to call off protests.
“We are happy over the high-level meeting decisions, and we were assured that the damaged vehicles will be repaired, so also the vehicles from Meghalaya”, he said.
He said similarly, Meghalaya government will meet its taxi bodies.
