Three from Assam held in bike smuggling case

Shillong, Aug 28: Three Assam residents were arrested for trying to sell stolen motorcycles at Weiloi in East Khasi Hills.
The accused are from Tamulpur village.
In a statement, the East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem said that acting swiftly on reliable information on August 27, Mawsynram police laid an ambush and apprehended them, while one accomplice fled into the jungle.
Three bikes – two Yamaha R15s (AS-01-FV-4193 and AS-27-F-1263) and a Royal Enfield Hunter 350 (AS-25-Z-1346) – were recovered.
The accused are in custody for verification and legal action and Assam police has been informed, the SP said.
