CM claims sub judice to deny info on Advocate General in House

Mukul raises protest of lawyers

Shillong, Aug 28: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has cited sub judice to deny information in the Assembly regarding protests of lawyers demanding the removal of Advocate General Amit Kumar.

Kumar is facing the ire of colleagues for his comments that the legal fraternity failed to protect law interns and women advocates after a law intern was allegedly molested by a senior advocate.

Raising a point of order in the Assembly, the Opposition leader Mukul Sangma sought the response of the government regarding the matter.

However, the chief minister said that since the matter is sub judice, the House will not be able to discuss it.

“Moreover, the details are not available”, he added.

Earlier, on August 27, the members of both the Shillong Bar Association and the High Court of Meghalaya Bar Association took out a rally demanding the removal of advocate general.

They had also submitted a memorandum to the chief minister last week.
