Shillong, Sept 15: 542 electors have been found ineligible for inclusion during the on-going SIR exercise.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) BDR Tiwari said out of 21,69,243 electors in the draft electoral roll, 6,51,735 notices have been generated. Of these, 6,46,397 notices have been delivered, while 5,190 notices are reported as pending for delivery. A total of 5,36,468 hearings have been conducted, representing 82.31% of the notices generated.
“So far, 542 electors have been found ineligible for inclusion in the final electoral roll after scrutiny and the prescribed process”, he added.
The progress of claims & objections received after publication of the draft electoral roll was also reviewed. As per the latest figures, 9,343 Form 6 applications for inclusion, 1,076 Form 7 applications, 1,211 Form 8 applications for shifting and 5,431 Form 8 applications for correction have been received across the state.
This represents a total of 17,061 applications received after publication of the draft electoral roll.
With the extended period for filing claims & objections ending on September 18, the CEO appealed to eligible electors to make use of the remaining opportunity. Electors whose names are not included in the draft electoral roll may submit form 6 along with the prescribed declaration form and supporting documents within the stipulated period.
Cases identified during scrutiny were reviewed.
Of the notices generated, 2,22,786 relate to no mapping cases and 4,28,949 to mapping discrepancies, aggregating to 6,51,735 cases.
The district election machinery was directed to ensure careful scrutiny of these cases while giving the concerned electors adequate opportunity to furnish the required documents and establish their eligibility.
The CEO reiterated that the objective of the SIR is to prepare an accurate, inclusive and transparent electoral roll, while ensuring due process and adequate opportunity to every eligible elector.
The last date for filing claims & objections is on September 17, the process of disposal of claims & objections and completion of hearings will continue up to October 17, and the final electoral roll is scheduled for publication on October 21.
“No eligible citizen is left out and no ineligible person is included in the electoral roll”, the CEO added.
