
Shillong, Sept 20: Forces were deployed in Maikhuli border, Ri Bhoi following a clash between Assam and Meghalaya residents.
According to the police, around 10:20 an on Saturday ( Sept 19), a telephonic information was received that individuals numbering around 100 from Assam led by one Mintu Boro of Bakrapara, Assam have entered the Maikhuli field by dismantling half of the cemented wall erected behind Maikhuli U.P school leading to the field.
They chained and locked the entrance gate of the field and stopped the villagers of Maikhuli from entering.
This resulted in public anger and the Maikhuli residents forcefully pulled/pushed the entrance gate and broke open the lock and upon entering, the Assam residents confronted the locals, which led to shuffle between both sides.
Police said after the intervention of the police from Pillangkata Out Post and Basistha Mandir Out Post, the situation was brought under control .

The magistrate of both sides, Additional SPs of Assam and Meghalaya and OCs of Khanapara PS and Basistha PS along with the CRPF personnel and available police ensured safety.
“Forces have been deployed on both sides and presently situation is normal”, the police added.
