Centre gives award, State spends Rs 3 crore

Shillong, Oct 3: Meghalaya will spend Rs 3 crore for the police award granted by the Centre.

Rs 3 crore was approved by the House  during the Autumn session of the Assembly recently.

According to the list of supplementary demand for grants and supplementary appropriation 2026-2027, an additional amount of Rs 3,00,00,000/ is required in connection with the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India’s  award of Prestigious President of India’s Police Colour to the Meghalaya Police  in recognition of its exemplary service, professionalism, dedication, and commitment towards maintaining peace, public order, and internal security in the State.

“The honour is a significant milestone for the force and acknowledge the collective contribution of all ranks of Meghalaya Police in the discharge of their duties. In connection with conferment of the President’s Police Colour, Various activities are required to be undertaken in J.N. Stadium, Polo  including arrangement of ceremonial parade presentation, procurement of ceremonial items, preparation and display of the Police Colour, commemorative materials, infrastructure arrangement, logistics and other related expenditure. These activities are essential for ensuring that the prestigious honour is commemorative in a befitting manner’, the list said.

The demand was passed by the Assembly without any discussion though law and order situation and overall policing have not been satisfactory.
