Govt to write-off MCCL dues of over Rs 23 crore

Shillong, Oct 13: The Cabinet has approved the closure and winding up of Meghalaya Cherra Cement Limited (MCCL).
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday ( Oct 13), Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that the dues owed to MCCL employees have been settled in line with the government’s commitment.
To complete the winding-up process, the cabinet has also approved the write-off of pending liabilities, including approximately Rs 8.9 crore in sales tax dues and Rs 15.53 Crore in royalty dues. As MCCL is a government-owned company, these liabilities would otherwise involve transfers between the state government and its departments. The decision will simplify the process and facilitate the closure of the company without any additional financial burden on the state government.
