Govt nod to school reforms for transition

Shillong,Oct 13: Cabinet has approved the Meghalaya School Education (School Complex) Rules, 2026.
Speaking to reporters after the cabinet meeting on Tuesday (Oct 13), Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that this is ab important step towards making school transitions smoother for students.
Meghalaya has 9,244 Lower Primary schools, but only 532 Higher Secondary schools. This gap often makes it difficult for students to secure admission and forces them to go through multiple admission procedures as they progress through school.
“Through the School Complex framework, we aim to link Lower and Upper Primary schools with nearby Secondary and Higher Secondary schools, creating a smoother transition between classes and reducing administrative hurdles for students. This initiative will also help us build a stronger network of nodal and model schools across blocks, subdivisions and districts, expanding access to quality secondary education across Meghalaya
