Action against police sought for mishandling case

Shillong, Aug 7: The joint secretary of Non- Gazette Employee Association (NGEA) of GHADC, Flaming Marak has petitioned the DGP LR Bishnoi on the need to take action against the police officers for mishandling a complaint.
In a letter addressed to the DGP, Marak said an FIR was lodged on December 18, 2020 against Rikse R Marak the then Secretary to the Executive Committee of GHADC by Senora Johny Arengh, the then president of NGEA of Garo Hills Autonomous District Council.
In the FIR, it was alleged that Rikse R Marak had on 8.12.2020, during the holiday, instigated one Karny Ch. Marak, the peon of general branch of GHADC, to take out the office file from the department by forcing the chowkidar of general branch of GHADC to open the door.
Marak said for the past two years, no investigation was carried out by the police and the officer In-charge instead of appointing the Investigation Officer (IO) for conducting an inquiry had sent the matter to the Lok Adalat Hence, Marak sought action against the officer in-charge of Tura police station.
Marak said the officer In-charge had wrongly registered the case as SI C.J.Sangma Tura P.S as petitioner/claimant/plaintiff –versus- Senora Johny Arengh and three others.
The officer in-charge should have registered the case against Rikse R Marak and Karny Ch. Marak as state versus Rikse R. Marak and not as SI CJ Sangma Tura PS versus Senora Johny Arengh which is mishandling the case, Marak said.
Marak wanted the DGP to initiate an inquiry against the officer in-charge of Tura PS for wrongly registering the case, converting the criminal case into civil case and also for not investigating and registering the FIR.
For forwarding the FIR to Lok Adalat and for not following the due process of criminal law provided in various sections of CrPC, the officer should be taken into task, Marak said.
