Shillong, Aug 20: The action against any lapse by the police on the alleged suicide of a 50-year-old man in Williamnagar police station, will be after the magisterial inquiry, police said on Sunday.
The man was an accused in a sexual assault case of a minor.
The accused identified as Jitman Sangma, a herbal healer, was found hanging inside the lock-up of Williamnagar police station on August 18 around 9.30 pm.
He was arrested on August 17 following a complaint by one of the victims and lodged at the lock-up.
There were a few more complaints against the accused.
“Magisterial enquiry is going on. Action will be taken based on the report”, East Garo Hills SP SK Ambedkar said, in response to a question on the action to be taken due to the lapse in the police station.
Police had earlier claimed that the man used his vest to hang himself from the ventilator of the lock-up.
