Activist alleges discrimination in nurses’ recruitment
Shillong, Aug 4: Activist Junebirth Marak has alleged discrimination in recruitment for nurses.
In a statement issued here , he said an advertisement for staff nurses on contractual basis was released on July 8 by the Director of Health and Services (MI) . A total 325 positions were announced with 213 allocated to the Khasi Jaintia Hills and 112 to the Garo Hills.
The written test was conducted on July 27 and the results were released on July 31.
A total 1532 candidates were selected, out of which only 139 were from the Garo Hills districts, while 1393 candidates were from the Khasi Jaintia Hills.
The break-up is West Garo Hills: 58 selected candidates, including 4 muslims and 1 Rabha.
East Garo Hills: 23 selected candidates.
South Garo Hills:18 selected candidates.
North Garo Hills:23 selected candidates, including 1 Rabha.
South West Garo Hills:17 selected candidates, including 5 Hajong and 6 Rabha.
According to Marak Garo Hills has been facing discrimination in all sectors of recruitment.
In this regard, he criticised Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh and health secretary Ram Kumar.
We, the people of the Garo.Hills, cannot accept such results overseen by Director of Health Ramkumar and Health Minister Madam Ampareen Lyngdoh”, he said.
The 139 selected candidates from the Garo Hills for 112 posts will be further filtered based on practical evaluations, leading to insufficient candidates to fill the vacancies in the Garo Hills”, he added.
