Activist alleges illegal coal mining in Jadigittim

Shillong, Feb 2: Rajen Ch, Sangma, son-in-law of Era Aning Akingland Nokma, South Garo Hills, has petitioned South Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner regarding illegal coal mining in Jadigittim.
According to a letter addressed to the DC on January 27, Sangma said that after lifting the coal through auction, he found freshly mined coal.
He said order was given by the concerned authority to transport/lift coal which is 57000 MT from the designated coal depot only at Pathargittim, South Garo Hills District specifically vide designated coal depot No.10 and 11 vide GPS coordinate no.Damra-Dambu-Baghmar-Barengapara Rd-Pattargittim-Meghalaya 794114, Lat:25.45143″ Long: 90.710173″ respectively for 2022-2024 years but after the coal auction, he came to learn that freshly extracted coal from Khasi Hills and Garo Hills region was found at Jadigittim, South Garo Hills.
I learnt that presently, more than one thousand coal trucks are lifting freshly extracted coal from the undesignated coal depot and the same is transported to Dudhnoi or Krishnai, Assam by transporter M/S.Simsang Mining Private limited vide Regd No.CIN U10100ML2022PTCO013864 without prior permission of the concerned authority.
He also attached photos of the coal lifted from the undesignated coal depot in South Garo Hills.
He wanted the district administration to carry out spot inspection and take action.
