Activist calls for MHRC intervention, says 3 coal workers are still trapped

Shillong, Feb 18: Social activist Agnes Kharshiing on Friday wanted suo motu action by Meghalaya Human Rights Commission as information received by her indicates that three coal workers are still trapped in the coal mine at Shera under Langmar village, Shallang, West Khasi Hills. The owner named P Nongrin is from Killon Mathei situated near many coke factories.

Two workers from Boko, Assam died in the mine on February 16 evening after a hillock collapsed.

According to Agnes, it is strange that the state government and the police don’t know anything about it and hence the intervention of MHRC is necessary.
