Activist for ban on illegal stone quarry after road accident

Shillong,Jan 28: Social activist Nazmul Hashan has sought action against a driver whose alleged reckless driving resulted in injury to a health worker and an electric rickshaw driver near Baitbari mosque in West Garo Hills.

The activist has filed an FIR in this regard.

Hashan said the accident occurred on January 24  when a  Bolero pick up van ( ML08G6171) loaded with stones/boulders extracted illegally, hit a an electric rikshaw carrying a nurse, who was on medical duty, supervising the pulse polio immunization duty, on the Bhaitbari (old) village road.

The rickshaw wad partially damaged.

According to the activist, the vehicle driven by Azizur from Nayagaon, Baitbari was loaded with boulders.

Hashan said he personally made an inquiry as to who is the driver and whether he is having a driving license holder.

“Later, it was known that the accused driver did not have driving license and we have come to know from the reliable sources that he sells illegal stones/boulders from the illegal stone quarries under the Rajabala constituency”, he said.

In the FIR filed with the Phulbari police station, the activist wanted  investigation into the matter so that illegal stone quarry business can be stopped.
