Shillong,March 31: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, while welcoming the reduction in areas under AFSPA, said the Act should be repealed completely.
The Centre on Thursday reduced the disturbed areas unde AFSPA in Nagaland, Assam and Manipur.
Speaking to reporters, Conrad asserted that the Act should be repealed completely.
“We have always been stressing that the AFSPA is an Act that has gone beyond its time and it is something that has been not really achieving the objective that it was meant to and given the current situation and circumstances in the region, this Act should be repealed completely,” he added
The Union Home Minister Amit Shah had tweeted that the reduction in areas under AFSPA is a result of the improved security situation and fast-tracked development due to the consistent efforts and several agreements to end insurgency and bring lasting peace in North East by PM.
